A Ton of Anime News Landed Over the Holidays

The winter break offer a wealth of pursuits much better than scanning the updates: discovering surprises, feasting on holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to avoid yelling at relatives. I hope you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting announcements surfaced during the holidays, and if you didn't see a few, here is a roundup of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Will Continue (In 2027)

Truly the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop further production. The show will come back with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the promotional image for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, by now, they could be mocking the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Season 6 Has a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been running for a while, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Second Season

Immediately following the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has yet to be revealed.
