"As an answer to this strong improvement, the tobacco sector is fighting back with recent nicotine products, aggressively targeting young people. Governments must act faster and more vigorously in implementing tested tobacco-control policies," the official continued.

The e-cigarette figures are a projection since some nations - 109 in sum, and several in African and Southeast Asia - do not gather statistics.

According to the analysis, as of February this period, at least 86 million e-cigarette individuals were grown-ups, mostly in developed nations.

And at least 15 million adolescents between the ages of 13 and 15 presently vape, per studies from 123 nations.

Although many countries have attempted to establish e-cigarette regulations to address child vaping in recent years, by the end of 2024, 62 states still had no regulation in operation, and 74 nations had no minimum age at which e-cigarettes can be acquired, states the public health body.

Simultaneously, tobacco usage has been decreasing - from an estimated 1.38 billion users in 2000 to 1.2 billion in 2024.

Prevalence of tobacco usage among females fell the greatest - from 11% in 2010 to 6.6% in 2024.

Among males, the drop was from 41.4% in 2010 to 32.5% in 2024.

But one in five of adults worldwide yet uses tobacco.
