Enthusiasts of this game's highly fluid movement can rejoice to learn that an innovative traversal feature is being implemented when Season 27: Amped goes live on Nov. 4. Introducing The Mantle Boost Dubbed "Momentum Boosting" by the developers, this ability gives players a surge of propulsion when climbing over obstacles. As explained lead battle royale designer Eric Canavese, Mantle Boosting was previously existed of the game for quite a while, often called as "ledge boosting." However it's no easy feat for casual gamers, and typically employed by pro gamers in competitive play or esports competitions. In this update, the team simplifies the process for players of all skill levels to execute these advanced speed-boosts. "This technique have been in Apex for some time, but executing it requires skill to pull off and a player would never know it [is in the game] without outside knowledge," Canavese explains. "Now including a visual cue so players can clearly identify when and how to trigger the fast-paced traversal skill, making accessible the mechanic and introducing new ways to play for more players." Why Make It Accessible What's the reason for making a previously obscure technique available to everyone? Principal designer Josh Mohan explains developers aims for players to experience empowerment — including ones who are new. "[The playerbase] performs other crazy stuff like super-glides and tap-strafing, and we looked around at our competition, observed what the community are doing, and we wondered, 'What if we provide some of this power to a broader audience?'" Mohan clarifies. "Because currently, certain techniques are kind of janky to use — you need to remap your keybinds and execute within one-frame windows. We proposed, 'What if we create a polished version?'" The Amped Update Emphasis on Mobility Mobility is primarily the central theme in Season 27, with characters Horizon, the defensive specialist, and Valkyrie receiving enhancements to help keep them in motion. The cooldown period on her tactical ability is shorter, and this skill will boost users upward faster than before. Rampart's Amped Cover feature overhead protection and capability to grant speed boosts to those nearby. But it's the high-flying this Legend receiving the most attention this season, with various adjustments applied to make her more potent, faster, and deadlier. "In my opinion many agree that Valkyrie's time is here," states Legend designer the designer. "Certainly that she's been dominant in the past, but due to the addition of new Legends, movement[-based] passives, and Evac Towers, it seemed like she's not very relevant in current the game. It was a really great opportunity for us to revisit a bunch of aspects in her abilities and sort of restore her to her glory days." Enhancements to the Aerial Legend To restore her competitive status in the game's meta, the developer says the team evaluated all her skills and implemented significant modifications. Her VTOL Jets received improvements, boosting velocity during flight, and this equipment regenerates three times faster, enabling her to spend more time in the air. Now she won't be harmed from her ultimate ability, which has also been upgraded to mark enemies who are hit from the missiles. Her squad redeploy ability — which lifts teammates into the air for repositioning or escape — now takes reduced delay to activate. Additionally, she gains some new Legend Upgrades that users can choose to reduce fuel consumption, widen the area of her rockets, or further speed up her Skyward Dive activation. "Her jet pack fulfills that jet-fighter fantasy," he says. Map Changes Even the game's only floating arena, this location, receives a movement-friendly facelift, with an extensive redesign that expands bottlenecks and renders securing elevated positions more manageable. The developers says the game this update is all about giving players the tools required to keep up with the competition. "Really, we were looking at the game's fundamental nature as a movement shooter," explains lead Legend designer the lead. Apex Legends the Amped season launches November 4th at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST.
