World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year. The 27-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles title. A Season of High Performance Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final. The Belarusian also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year. This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago. Historic Statistics Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record £11m in earnings. She received nearly 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media. Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a new level". Additional WTA Award Winners Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking extended hiatus after the arrival of her daughter and making her comeback to the sport earlier this season. Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18. Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second Grand Slam title together. Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches. Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third time.
